8th Grade Negative Space Charcoal Drawings
The 8th Grade utilized the concept of negative space (the space around and between the subject of an image) in this project. The first step of this process was to shade a piece of paper with vine charcoal. Then, they looked at the negative spaces and shapes created by the bicycle and ‘drew’ them with kneaded erasers. Finally, the students darkened the original vine charcoal shading until the dark spaces were almost black.
